The San Gabriel Mountains bound the Los Angeles basin on the north. One of the roads that penetrates the range to provide recreational access leads to Mount Baldy and Old Baldy, also known as San Antonio Peak.

Sunrise Highway and Cuyamaca Panoramas
The mountains of southern California, near the border, are easily accessed via the Sunrise Highway through the Laguna recreation area and Route 79 through Rancho Cuyamaca. These panoramas were collected there. The high position of the roads gives a good view into the desert country of the Anza-Borrego Desert state Park.

Less than ten percent of the original buildings of this mining boom town remain in the high desert north of Mono Lake. Fires and time have taken their toll. In March of the dry winter of 2007 there were only scattered patches of snow on the ground.
